DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a synthetic turf and the process for its preparation suitable for ornamental, recreational and sporting purposes. For example, the synthetic turf of the present invention can be used for all sporting activities usually conducted on natural grass fields, such as football, baseball, tennis, rugby.
It is well known that turf for sports fields consists of natural grass that grows on a support ground. Natural lawns allow high performance both from an aesthetic point of view, and from a technical and environmental point of view.
However, following use and unfavorable climatic conditions, the aforementioned natural turf tends to deteriorate and therefore requires expensive maintenance. In the absence of maintenance, the natural turf becomes unaesthetic and irregular, even potentially dangerous for the users of the aforementioned natural turf.
Furthermore, an intense sporting activity carried out on the aforementioned natural turfs worsens their characteristics. In particular, natural turf loses its flatness, uniformity and strength, thereby worsening athletic performance.
For these reasons, synthetic turf carpets have been developing for some years which are equipped with artificial grass threads and filler materials which give rise to improved performance and increased grip on the ground. Such synthetic turf can be installed on surfaces made of various materials, in particular asphalt and inert materials.
The aforementioned synthetic turfs must, in particular, possess physical and technological characteristics typical of natural turf, such as, for example, elasticity of the playing field, ability to absorb blows, tensile and torsional resistance caused by shoes, resistance to compression and the penetration of foreign bodies, as well as the ability to absorb and drain water.
However, synthetic turf has some drawbacks, including considerable overheating of the field, as well as environmental changes. In order to avoid these drawbacks, WO2006 / 008579 proposes combined systems consisting of natural and synthetic lawns mixed together.
A valid alternative to overcome these problems is reported in the Italian patent application n. PI2003A000036. This document describes a synthetic turf with a backfill material formed from a mixture of sand, plant material dust and rubber granules. In a first configuration, a layer of sand, a layer of rubber granules and a layer of plant material are described. In a second configuration it is described that the plant material and the rubber are distributed over the layer of sand after having already been mixed with each other. This solution allows in particular to significantly reduce the overheating of the turf, due to the presence of the plant material.
WO2006109110 and WO2007010324 provide for the use of filling material of vegetable origin, particularly peat and coconut peat. In particular, coconut peat includes both granular and powdered parts. However, the powders deriving from the grinding of coconuts have a high water retention capacity which, in the event of heavy rains, causes the turf to flood. Furthermore, with the passage of time, rainwater can cause dust to accumulate with consequent deterioration in the drainage of the turf and its technical performance. An attempt is made to overcome these drawbacks by proposing to compact the above powders by transforming them into granules. However, this operation is complex and expensive. Furthermore, with the passage of time, the aforesaid granules tend to return in the form of powders with the consequent disadvantages described above.
WO2008125895 tries to overcome this drawback due to the powders by using an infill material which includes only the granular and fibrous part of the ground coconut, the aforementioned fibrous and granular part being obtained by separating the powdered part from the raw ground coconut and using only the fibrous part and granular, which has a particle size greater than 500 microns for 90% by weight. The solution proposed by this document is still unsatisfactory as the granular part tends to pack and / or shatter with the passage of time.
Experts in the art therefore feel the need to overcome the above drawback concerning the raw material coming from coconut.
Furthermore, WO2008125895 teaches to use infill materials which include sand. Even this solution is not satisfactory as sand is an abrasive material that damages the artificial turf during its use in sporting events, for example during football matches.
Finally, the infill described in WO2008125895 comprises elastic material in granules of synthetic origin, for example rubber and / or recycled rubber. In addition to being not very ecological as it is of petrochemical origin, the synthetic elastomeric material tends to degrade over time due to atmospheric agents. In this case, the operation of replacing the aforementioned elastomeric part is burdensome and economically burdensome. Add to this the problem of having to properly dispose of the degraded elastomeric part, which is also not separable from the other parts to be replaced.
The present invention overcomes all the aforementioned drawbacks concerning not only the material deriving from coconut, but also the elastic properties, as it uses particular materials of vegetable origin which are resistant over time and not subject to degradation.
In accordo con ciò, la presente invenzione riguarda una superficie erbosa sintetica che comprende: Accordingly, the present invention relates to a synthetic grassy surface which comprises:
- uno strato di materiale di supporto sul quale sono intrecciati una pluralità di filamenti di materiale sintetico in tal modo formando un tappeto erboso sintetico costituito dai suddetti filamenti che si protendono da un lato del materiale di supporto; - a layer of support material on which a plurality of filaments of synthetic material are intertwined, thus forming a synthetic turf consisting of the aforementioned filaments which protrude from one side of the support material;
- un materiale di riempimento posto tra i suddetti filamenti, tale materiale di riempimento comprendendo una quantità selezionata di un primo prodotto derivante da noce di cocco macinata ed un secondo prodotto derivante da materiali di origine vegetale; - a filling material placed between the aforesaid filaments, this filling material comprising a selected quantity of a first product deriving from ground coconut and a second product deriving from materials of vegetable origin;
caratterizzato dal fatto che: characterized by the fact that:
(i) il primo prodotto derivante da noce di cocco macinata à ̈ costituito unicamente dalla parte fibrosa della noce di cocco macinata; (i) the first product from ground coconut consists solely of the fibrous part of the ground coconut;
(ii) the second product deriving from materials of plant origin consists of a composition of matter consisting of maritime pine and conifer bark.
As regards the fibrous part of the coconut, in the present invention it is devoid of the granular part present in the ground coconut. Compared to the fibrous part which also contains granules, the fibrous part alone guarantees better drainage and better air capacity; it follows that the aforementioned fibrous part remains softer and more elastic, thus avoiding compaction with the other components of the infill. This fibrous part of the ground coconut is obtained by subjecting the ground coconut to a screening in order to separate the fibrous part from the granular part and from the powders. The screening systems can be mechanical, in particular rotating, or electromagnetic or with bending waves.
Regarding the maritime pine bark, it is a highly draining product with acidic characteristics so it is less attackable by bacteria. It is also rich in tannins that do not allow the formation of fungi and molds. Finally, it is a product with a remarkable elasticity, easily verifiable even with simple empirical tests.
Therefore, the present invention has replaced an elastic synthetic substance that is difficult to dispose of with an equally elastic but biocompatible natural substance, with a decidedly more pleasant appearance and easily replaceable and disposable, where necessary. Elastic materials of vegetable origin are also used in the prior art, for example cork and husk or rice husk. However, these latter materials are considered by agronomists to be a receptacle for various bacterial species and therefore have disadvantages as regards the hygiene required in sports. Furthermore, due to their low specific weight, they have the drawback of floating in the event of even minor rainfall and consequently of dispersing in the environment, thus making the infill uneven. This leads to drawbacks as regards the safety of sports facilities and the sports performance themselves.
The bark of conifers also has a slightly acid pH, with the consequent advantages described above for the maritime pine, has an excellent drainage capacity and also exhibits a very slow decay.
In the preferred embodiment, the filling material (or infill) of the present invention also comprises another draining material, for example peat and corn cob, preferably corn cob, which has the characteristics of being an excellent drainage agent and of maintaining a high air capacity inside the infill.
Quindi, fatto cento il complessivo materiale di riempimento, la composizione preferita della presente invenzione consiste di: Hence, having made one hundred of the filling material as a whole, the preferred composition of the present invention consists of:
(a) fibra di noce di cocco in quantità da 50% a 70% peso, preferibilmente da 55% a 65% peso; (a) coconut fiber in an amount from 50% to 70% by weight, preferably from 55% to 65% by weight;
(b) corteccia di pino marittimo in quantità da 10% a 20% peso, preferibilmente da 13% a 17% peso, (b) maritime pine bark in an amount from 10% to 20% by weight, preferably from 13% to 17% by weight,
(c) corteccia di conifere in quantità da 10% a 30% peso, preferibilmente da 15% a 25% peso; (c) bark of conifers in an amount from 10% to 30% by weight, preferably from 15% to 25% by weight;
(d) corn cob in an amount from 2 to 8% by weight, preferably from 4 to 6% by weight.
It should be noted that all components (a) to (c) as well as the final filling material have an average diameter greater than 0.315 mm and less than 4.0 mm, with a maximum tolerance of 5% of particles with an average diameter less than 0.315 mm.
The infill composition of the present invention can also contain other substances, for example dyes, antibacterial substances, surfactants. The latter can be useful for improving the percolation of water through synthetic grass.
The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of a synthetic grassy surface which comprises the stages of:
- preparare uno strato di materiale di supporto sul quale sono intrecciati una pluralità di filamenti di materiale sintetico in tal modo formando un tappeto erboso sintetico costituito dai suddetti filamenti che si protendono da un lato del materiale di supporto; - preparing a layer of support material on which a plurality of filaments of synthetic material are intertwined, thereby forming a synthetic turf consisting of the aforementioned filaments which protrude from one side of the support material;
- stendere un materiale di riempimento tra i suddetti filamenti, tale materiale comprendendo una quantità misurata di un primo prodotto derivante da noce di cocco macinata ed un secondo prodotto derivante da materiali di origine vegetale; - spreading a filling material between the aforesaid filaments, this material comprising a measured quantity of a first product deriving from ground coconut and a second product deriving from materials of vegetable origin;
caratterizzato dal fatto che: characterized by the fact that:
(i) il primo prodotto derivante da noce di cocco macinata à ̈ costituito unicamente dalla parte fibrosa della noce di cocco macinata; (i) the first product from ground coconut consists solely of the fibrous part of the ground coconut;
The following examples are given for a better understanding of the present invention. A typical preparation of the infill according to the present invention and a typical preparation of a synthetic grass field for the game of football using the infill material according to the present invention are described below.
Esempio – Preparazione dell’intaso Example - Preparation of the infill
As for the preparation of the fibrous part of the coconut, the coconut is first ground coarsely and then rehydrated to bring it back to natural conditions which will then not change over time. Subsequently the ground and rehydrated coconut is subjected to screening in this way separating the granular part from the fibrous part which has, in accordance with the required specifications, a particle size between 0.315 mm and 0.4 mm.
As regards the bark of maritime pine and conifers, and the corn cob, these materials are ground and then subjected to screening until the above-mentioned particle sizes are obtained.
All the screening of the aforesaid process is carried out by means of a bending wave screen.
After having separately prepared the four components mentioned above, they are loaded into a mixing plant, where they are mixed in the desired proportions until an optimal uniformity of the product is reached. Water is also sprayed to ensure optimum humidity is maintained with consequent stabilization of the mixture and elimination of dust.
The packaging is carried out using a mechanical packaging machine with automatic filling control.
Four synthetic grass soccer fields located in the North and Center of Italy have been prepared starting from a synthetic grass carpet with filaments of length from 20 to 65 mm. A layer of quartz sand was placed on the aforesaid carpet and the material described above of the present invention was used as the infill material. On the football field thus prepared, measurements were made according to the protocol of FIFA and the LND (National Amateur League) using a soccer ball.
Vertical bounce, angled bounce and ball rolling tests were performed. All the football fields tested met the requirements of the aforementioned tests as the vertical bounce was between 0.60m and 0.85m, the angled bounce between 45% and 60%, the ball rolling between 4.0 and 8.0m.
