Nella tecnica della pesca a strascico i divergenti attualmente presenti in commercio vengono impiegati con lo scopo di permettere la massima apertura consentita dalla rete. A differenza dei modelli sino ad ora usati, il divergente JET è caratterizzato dall’avere un ipersostentatore di coda oltre a quello sul bordo d’ attacco allo scopo di esaltare i valori della portanza necessaria per la divaricazione. Il divergente JET a parità di dimensioni geometriche con altri divergenti in commercio garantisce aperture della rete notevolmente superiori grazie agli alti valori di portanza generata durante il moto. Pertanto, a parità di potenza motore installata a bordo del peschereccio, le dimensioni geometriche del divergente JET necessario saranno inferiori rispetto a quelle che sarebbero richieste impiegando un divergente attualmente disponibile sul mercato. Ulteriore vantaggio dovuto alle più contenute dimensioni è rappresentato dalla facilità di stivaggio e manovrabilità negli spostamenti a bordo del peschereccio nelle fasi di pre-pesca Dal punto di vista dinamico, l introduzione di un opportuno angolo diedro garantisce, al divergente, una maggiore stabilità laterale durante il suo impiego.
