D E S C R I Z IO N E DESCRIPTION
del brevetto per invenzione industriale of the patent for industrial invention
The present invention relates to a closure element in natural cork for bottles containing food liquids.
In particular, the present invention relates to a cork stopper for bottles containing wine, to which the present description will make explicit reference without thereby losing generality.
In general, the wine is stored in glass bottles, which is a material of mineral origin of high chemical inertness and easily sterilizable and has stable mechanical characteristics. For this reason, the glass of the bottles does not interact with the wine and therefore guarantees that the wine is not altered by foreign substances for the entire time of storage. For about two hundred years, wine bottles have been closed by means of natural cork stoppers or by means of stoppers derived from natural cork, which is a material of vegetable origin, which, if on the one hand, thanks to its characteristics deriving from its own vegetable origin is practically irreplaceable as a raw material for making corks for wine bottles, on the other hand, it is often unreliable due to the fact that its chemical and physical characteristics are inconstant. In other words, in a greater or lesser percentage the corks can give the wine anomalous flavors, such as the well-known cork flavor or other unpleasant flavors, or they do not guarantee an effective seal giving rise to leaks, a phenomenon known with the name of colosity, or allow an excessive exchange of oxygen between the external environment and the wine contained in the bottle. Studies have shown that there is a close relationship between the phenomenon of colosity and the unpleasant flavors of wine, which are not only attributable to certain chemical compounds, possibly polluting substances, contained in the corks, but also to the non-homogeneous mechanical response of the corks. .
Natural cork stoppers of the known type are obtained from the subery bark of cork oaks, from which the cortical tissue is removed in the form of curved boards called planks of suberose bark, from which the corks are punched after a series of treatments. The suberose bark has a series of annual growth rings concentric with the trunk of the oak and the lenticels that extend radially with respect to the trunk of the oak. Lenticels, sometimes also called pores, are tunnels with an irregular section, which extend in a substantially rectilinear way and are substantially parallel to each other, when the planks are flattened during the manufacturing process.
Normally, in the bottling of wines, corks are used which are substantially single-piece cylinders of natural cork, which are obtained from the aforementioned planks and have a longitudinal axis, which is substantially perpendicular to the lenticels. cited caps are intended to be inserted with interference inside the necks of respective bottles and exert an elastic force against the internal walls of the respective necks of the bottles to achieve a sealing action. In consideration of the arrangement of the lenticels with respect to the axis of the cork, the cork of the corks described above behaves, from the point of view of the mechanical actions exerted on the internal walls of the bottle necks, as a highly anisotropic material. In fact, the thrust that the cap exerts inside the neck of the bottle is substantially due to the thrust generated by the elastic return of the cap. In consideration of the fact that the density and elasticity of the cork vary from area to area of the cork itself and according to the direction of stress / deformation, the cork does not exert a uniform force on the inner wall of the neck and, therefore, can be created the phenomena of colosity and / or excessive oxygen exchange, which favors the oxidation phenomena of the wine and can cause the formation of unpleasant flavors.
Furthermore, the diameters of the known types of plugs are often limited by the thickness of the plates, sometimes relatively small, and plugs with a diameter sufficient to guarantee an effective seal cannot be made.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a closure element for wine bottles which minimizes the drawbacks described above.
L'altezza H del tappo 1 è sostanzialmente uguale o minore al diametro D, il quale è sensibilmente superiore ad un diametro D3 dei tappi 32 di tipo noto (figure 6a, 6b, 6c). 1 in Figure 1 indicates a natural cork stopper, which substantially has the shape of a cylinder of diameter D and height H, which is provided with an axis 2, with a lateral surface 3 and with two end surfaces 4 or bases, of which only one is shown in figure 1. The stopper 1 comprises a single piece 5 of natural cork, which has a plurality of lenticels 6 or pores, which are tunnels with an irregular section which extend substantially straight in a direction R within the piece 5, and are characteristic of natural cork. The lenticels 6 are substantially parallel to each other, they are substantially parallel to the axis 2 and pass through the piece 5 from a base 4 to the opposite base 4. The piece 5 also has annual growth layers 7, which are delimited from each other by rings 8 of dark color. The height H of the cap 1 is substantially equal to or less than the diameter D, which is significantly greater than a diameter D3 of the caps 32 of known type (Figures 6a, 6b, 6c).
According to the variant of Figure 2, a cap 9 has the shape of a cylinder with diameter D and height H, which is arranged around a longitudinal axis 10 and has a lateral surface 11 and two bases 12, only one of which is shown in Figure 2. The stopper 9 comprises two pieces 13 and 14 of cork, which have the shape of cylinders of diameter D and having the same axis 10, are superimposed on each other and are joined to each other to means of an adhesive substance. The pieces 13 and 14 have a height equal to H / 2, but it is also possible to make pieces 13 and 14 that have a different height from H / 2. The pieces 13 and 14 are crossed by respective plurality of lenticels 6 , which extend in the direction R substantially parallel to the axis 10, and comprise a determined number of layers 7, which are delimited from each other by the rings 8.
Il tappo 15 presenta una altezza H ed un diametro medio sostanzialmente pari al diametro D. According to the variant of Figure 3, a cap 15 has the shape of an octagonal section prism which has an axis 16 of symmetry and comprises a lateral surface 17 and bases 18, only one of which is shown in Figure 3. The cap 15 is defined by a single piece 19, which is crossed by the lenticels 6, which extend in the direction R substantially parallel to the axis 16 and has a determined number of layers 7 delimited by rings 8. The cap 15 has a height H and a average diameter substantially equal to diameter D.
With reference to Figure 4, 20 indicates a bottle, which comprises a neck 21 which extends around an axis 22. The neck 21 has an open end 23 and an internal cavity 24 delimited by a wall 25, which has a substantially cylindrical internal surface 26 with diameter D2 and an external surface 27 having a truncated cone shape and provided with a ring 28 near the open end 23.
In use, the caps 1, 9 and 15 are inserted into respective cavities 24 through the end 23 by means of a capping machine of a known type and not shown. In practice, the caps 1, 9 and 15 are deformed by means of compression forces FI radial with respect to the respective axes 2, 10 and 16 imparted to the caps 1, 9 and 15 by the capping machine of a known type and not shown to make the caps 1, 9 and 15 themselves have a smaller diameter than the internal diameter D2 of the neck 21 so as to be easily pushed into the cavity 24. The forces F1 are substantially perpendicular to the axes 2, 10 and 16 and to the lenticels 4 of the respective caps 1, 9 and 15, which deform temporarily thanks to the elastic nature of natural cork. Once the caps 1, 9 and 15 have been inserted into the cavities 24, the respective axes 2, 10 and 16 coincide with the axes 22 of the respective bottles 20 and the elastic return of the caps 1, 9 and 15 themselves generates the action of forces F2, which are radially directed with respect to the respective axes 2, 10 and 16, act on the respective portions of the internal surface 26 which comes into contact with the lateral surfaces 3, 11, 17 of the caps 1, 9, 15 and determine a sealing action.
The advantages of the stoppers 1, 9 and 15 consist in the fact that the cork of the aforementioned stoppers 1, 9 and 15 behaves as a substantially isotropic material to the radial deformations resulting from the compression with respect to the axes 2, 10 and 16 and therefore the forces F2 are substantially constant along planes perpendicular to the respective axes 2, 10 and 16. Furthermore, the static compression exerted by the neck 21 of the bottle 20 on the caps 1, 9, 15 determines the closure of the lenticels 6 and prevents an excessive exchange of oxygen between wine and the external environment.
The pieces 5, 13, 14 and 19 to make the aforementioned caps 1, 9 and 15 are obtained from a cork plank 29, a portion of which is shown in figure 5. The plank 29 is detached from the cortical fabric of oak trunks from cork not shown and comprises a lower face 30, commonly called the belly, which is the face facing the trunk of the cork oak not shown, and an upper face 31, commonly called the back, which is the face facing the exterior of cork oak not illustrated. The planks 29, which generally have an arched shape, are treated according to a manufacturing process to obtain substantially flat planks 29. The lower face 30 is relatively smooth and uniform, while the upper face 31 is strongly wrinkled and irregular, furthermore the cork arranged in correspondence with the lower face 30 has a density greater than the density of the cork arranged in correspondence with the upper face 31. The difference in density between the faces 30 and 31 is attributable to the fact that the growth of the cork takes place from the inside towards the outside and the layers 7 as they are pushed outwards, during the growth they decrease their own density. also generating cracks. As better indicated in Figure 5, the density DE of the cork of the plank 29 gradually decreases from the lower face 30 towards the upper face 31 along an axis X correlated to the thickness of the plank 29. The plank 29 is provided with a plurality of passing lenticels 6, the which extend perpendicularly to the faces 30 and 31 and parallel to the direction R, and of a plurality of annual growth layers 7 separated from each other by the rings 8. The direction R is called the radial direction due to the fact that it represents the radial direction with respect to the trunk of the suberosa oak not shown before the planks 29 are removed and flattened and maintains the definition of radial direction R even after the planks 29 are flattened. According to the methodology in question, the pieces 5, 13, 14, 19 are obtained by by means of a punching or cutting of the respective side walls 3, 11 and 17 of the dashboard 29 along lines parallel to the direction in R and to the lenticels 6.
With reference to Figure 6a, a plank 29a of considerable thickness is used to make a piece 5 of height H, indicated in broken lines, which is obtained in the cork part of the plank 29a near the lower face 30 in such a way that the density of the pieces 5 is relatively high and free of cracks. This expedient allows to obtain stoppers 1 made with pieces 5 of high quality cork both from the mechanical point of view and from the chemical point of view. Next to the shape of the piece 5 is indicated the shape of the cap 32 of a known type and of diameter D3. The fact of obtaining the caps 1, 9 and 15 only in correspondence with the lower face 30 has the further advantage of avoiding the use of the cork arranged in correspondence with the upper face 31, which, in addition to having an insufficient density to guarantee a good mechanical behavior of the cork itself, has a large quantity of both chemical and microbiological pollutants, while the cork in correspondence with the lower face 30 is substantially free of such pollutants. With reference to figures 6b and 6c, the boards 29b and 29c relatively thin with respect to the board 29a do not allow to obtain caps 1, 15 of height H which have homogeneous characteristics along the respective axes 2 and 16, and which avoid the use of cork sufficiently distant from the upper face 31. For this reason, the pieces 13 and 14 are made from the planks 29b and 29c, which have a height less than the height H of the piece 5 and whose shape is indicated by dashed lines in figures 6b and 6c in correspondence with the lower face 30. , thus avoiding the use of cork with poor chemical and physical properties. Figures 6b and 6c also indicate the shape of the traditional stopper 32 in broken lines, which in the case of thin planks 29b and 29c also includes cork with poor chemical and physical qualities.
The fact of making caps 1, 9 and 15 with a significantly large diameter D, and in any case with a diameter D3, represents a considerable advantage in consideration of the fact that the diameter represents an important parameter for guaranteeing an effective closure of the bottle 20. L The current method also provides that the corks 1, 9, 15 are made with cork coming from known processes or alternatively with raw cork, in other words with unboiled cork.
According to a variant not shown, the stoppers 1, 9 and 15 can be used for bottles 20 of sparkling wines, sparkling wines and champagne, possibly in combination with a wire cage closed by means of a strap.
According to a further variant not shown, the cap is made with a plurality of discs glued together and with the respective lenticels arranged parallel to the axis of the cap.
The caps can have any geometric sections from a minimum of three sides with sharp or rounded edges.
