METODO DI LOTTA AGLI INSETTI, MEMBRO PER IL MONTAGGIO DI UNA TRAPPOLA PER INSETTI E KIT COMPRENDENTE TALE MEMBRO CON I QUALI ATTUARE TALE METODO INSECT FIGHTING METHOD, MEMBER FOR THE ASSEMBLY OF AN INSECT TRAP AND KIT INCLUDING SUCH MEMBER WITH WHICH TO IMPLEMENT THIS METHOD
DESCRIZIONE DELL’INVENZIONE DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention is part of the fight against insects, in particular the fight against stinging moths, especially the pine processionary moth (Traumatocampa pityocampa), and the fight against aphids.
The pine processionaries, in addition to feeding on the needles or buds of the plants, represent a health hazard as in some stages of their life cycle they are covered with hooked stinging hairs that have a protective function against predators and that can be released in the surrounding environment by contact with the insect.
These stinging hairs are shaped like small harpoons, have dimensions of about 0.1-0.2 mm, are very numerous and persistent and easily spread in the environment. If these stinging hairs come into contact with the skin, eyes, mucous membranes of the mouth or are inhaled, they can cause harmful effects to people and animals. In fact, they cause pathologies of various degrees from dermatitis to death by suffocation. The latter can occur, for example, if a pet like a dog bites into a larva covered with stinging hairs.
Adult pine processionary moths flicker from the ground in summer and lay their eggs on the canopy of trees (pines and / or cedars). The larvae, which are born in winter, feed on the surrounding needles and form a nest. At the end of winter or in spring, depending on the climatic conditions, the mature larvae descend along the tree trunk heading in procession towards the ground to bury themselves and transform into chrysalises until the environmental conditions are suitable for flickering.
Since nests always contain stinging hairs, they are considered sources of danger to public health.
Currently, the fight against the pine processionary is carried out in various ways, acting in different ways depending on the stage in which the insect is found.
The mechanical fight is carried out by destroying the nest. Since stinging hairs are always present in the nests, the habit of shooting at the nests, besides being socially dangerous, is harmful as it contributes to the spread of such hairs. It is therefore preferable to remove and burn the nest but it is necessary to operate with the utmost caution by adopting adequate protective measures. The interventions of removal of the nests must be carried out by trained personnel equipped with the necessary means of individual protection, the removal of empty nests is recommended as the amount of stinging hair is less. In this way, the larvae are allowed to give rise to a further generation of adult individuals, which being able to fly are more difficult to eradicate.
The biological control is carried out by means of pheromone traps for the mass capture of adult individuals or by spraying on the insecticide larvae an insecticide based on a biological agent, Bacillus thuringiensis, ssp. Kurstaki. Unfortunately, pheromone traps do not guarantee optimal effectiveness to eradicate infestations, while contact between the biological insecticide and the larvae or cocoon is necessary for it to have an effect, moreover the effectiveness of the treatment with the insecticide is also conditioned by atmospheric conditions. It follows that, sometimes repeated interventions are necessary. These interventions involve the use of a professional sprayer to spray the insecticide. However, when the trees are very tall, you can't reach the treetops with the sprayer. Furthermore, for safety reasons, it is preferable to fight with Bacillus thuringiensis on young newborn larvae as being devoid of stinging hairs they do not constitute a danger once they have fallen on the ground without life.
As an alternative to Bacillus thuringiensis it is also possible to use a chemical insecticide but it, in addition to the disadvantages already mentioned for the biological insecticide, has a significant environmental impact and involves the risk of exposure to the active ingredient. It is possible to avoid spreading a chemical insecticide in the environment by using endotherapy with which a pesticide is injected into the lymphatic tracts of the plant so that the leaves ingested by the larvae are poisonous for the latter. This technique must be carried out by highly specialized operators as, to reduce the side effects on the plant, it is necessary to drill a small hole with a depth not exceeding the first 2-3 growth rings for this purpose special professional equipment is used. very precise pressure. In addition, the hole must be disinfected and wound healing monitored. Even if through endotherapy there is no dispersion of chemical products in the environment, it represents an invasive method for the plant as it can cause damage to the lymphatic vessels and infection of the hole made to inject the pesticide. In addition to this, if the dosage used is not appropriate, phytotoxicity phenomena may occur.
Aphids or plant lice are very common insects that cause damage to various cultivated plants, especially fruit trees. Aphids produce a sugary liquid called honeydew that attracts bees, wasps and, most importantly, ants. The fight against aphids can be carried out by means of insecticides based on chemical active ingredients. To decide if it is necessary to intervene with chemical products on fruit plants, the level of infestation and the possible potential damage they can cause must be considered, it is also necessary to check the presence of predatory insects and parasites and the presence of insects useful as bees. It is therefore important to use selective chemicals targeting aphids and harmless to beneficial insects. Finally, it is always necessary to alternate the chemical products to be used for the phenomenon of resistance and to respect the shortage times before harvesting the fruit. To overcome these drawbacks, the biological control of aphids has been introduced which exploits parasitic and predatory insects of aphids, in particular ladybugs. Since the ants climb along the trunk of the plant to feed on the honeydew and protect the aphids from their natural predators to ensure a continuous production of honeydew, biological control is not effective.
The need therefore remains for an effective method of fighting harmful and / or dangerous insects that does not involve the use of chemical active ingredients, which is independent of the height of the infested plant and the weather conditions.
In particular, the need is felt for a method of struggle that prevents the larvae of lepidopterans, in particular of the Traumatocampa pityocampa, from giving rise to a generation of adult individuals in such a way as to block their proliferation, which has a high efficacy not dependent on atmospheric conditions, which is not invasive for the infested plant and which does not involve environmental impact or risk of exposure to chemical agents or the use of professional equipment.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an effective and versatile method of fighting insects that does not provide for dispersion in the environment or the use of chemical or biological principles, which is applicable to eradicate different types of insects, whose effectiveness does not depend on climatic or environmental factors.
The invention also relates to a member for the assembly of an insect trap and a kit that includes it.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a non-invasive method of fighting insects against infested plants.
The aforementioned purposes are achieved with the insect control method comprising the assembly of an insect trap on a tree characterized in that it comprises the following steps:
- porre una superficie di deviazione attorno al tronco di un albero per deviare il percorso di insetti lungo il relativo tronco, detta superficie essendo circondante il tronco dell’albero e inclinata di un angolo compreso fra 3 e 177° rispetto all’asse del tronco dell’albero lungo il suo sviluppo attorno alla circonferenza del tronco di un albero; - place a deviation surface around the trunk of a tree to deviate the path of insects along the relative trunk, said surface being surrounding the trunk of the tree and inclined at an angle between 3 and 177 ° with respect to the axis of the trunk of the tree along its development around the circumference of a tree trunk;
- providing on at least a portion of the deflection surface some chemical or physical retention means for retaining insects, preferably at least one layer of a chemical or physical retaining material, with said portion surrounding the trunk.
By implementing this method, the path of the non-winged insects that usually travel along the trunk of the trees is diverted and they are conveyed towards the chemical or physical means of restraint that trap them. It is therefore possible to prevent the larvae of the pine processionary from descending along the trunk to bury themselves in the ground and therefore to give life to a generation of adult individuals. Furthermore, the ants are prevented from climbing along the trunk and reaching the aphids present on the fruit plants, in this way they cannot protect the aphids from their natural predators. Therefore, the effectiveness of the biological control of plant lice is considerably increased.
The particular inclination due to the angle Î ± allows to trap also the processionary larvae directed downwards that climb over, passing over them, the larva that preceded it and that is held on the means of restraint. If the surface on which the means of restraint are positioned were parallel to the trunk, that is, placed vertically, the larvae that climb over the first trapped larva could fall to the ground making the fight intervention null and void. Preferably the angle Î ± is comprised between 5 ° and 175 ° and even more preferably between 15 ° and 165 °.
The chemical retention means can comprise viscous materials, adhesives or glues. Butyl-based glue is particularly preferred since it does not tend to dry out over time while maintaining its gluing capacity unchanged. The physical retention means can comprise a physical retention material consisting of non-woven fibers, a terry cloth or a velcro loop fabric. Preferably these fabrics are made of polyester or PVC. Both the legs of the insects and, in the case of the pine processionary moth, also the non-stinging down are caught in these holding means, particularly in the rings or in the loops of the fabric.
It is obvious that the proposed method does not include the use of insecticides of any kind and therefore has a low environmental impact and a zero risk of chemical exposure of the operators. lifting as it is sufficient to mount the trap at a height reachable by the operator. In the case of the pine processionary it is preferable to mount the trap at a height of at least one and a half meters to prevent small pets or children from inadvertently coming into contact with the trapped larvae. Moreover, since the insects, and therefore the stinging hairs, are trapped only on a portion of the surface of the trap, the removal of the latter is facilitated compared to the removal of the nests in which the stinging hairs are ubiquitous. In a preferred embodiment of the proposed method, it is particularly advantageous to use a member for mounting an insect trap comprising at least a portion selected from the group consisting of:
- una porzione a sviluppo planare riportante una pluralità di centri concentrici ed almeno un primo raggio di tali cerchi; - a planar portion showing a plurality of concentric centers and at least a first radius of such circles;
- una parete conformata come la superficie laterale di un tronco di cono 150 avente angolo al vertice compreso fra 3° e 177° con la superficie della parete riportante una pluralità di cerchi concentrici alle basi del tronco di cono ed almeno un segmento lungo un apotema; o - a wall shaped like the lateral surface of a truncated cone 150 having an angle at the vertex comprised between 3 ° and 177 ° with the surface of the wall bearing a plurality of concentric circles at the bases of the truncated cone and at least one segment along an apothem; or
- una parete conformata come un settore di tronco di cono con angolo al vertice compreso fra 3° e 177°, con la superficie della parete riportante una pluralità di archi di circonferenza concentrici alle basi del settore; - a wall shaped like a truncated cone sector with apex angle between 3 ° and 177 °, with the surface of the wall showing a plurality of circular arcs concentric with the bases of the sector;
con detto membro essendo ritagliabile lungo detti cerchi, detto raggio, detti archi e detto segmento. with said member being cut-out along said circles, said radius, said arcs and said segment.
Said member allows to easily mount the trap to the tree trunk by implementing preferred embodiments of the method according to the invention.
It follows that a kit for assembling an insect trap comprising this member and the retaining means selected from the group consisting of an element in the shape of a circular crown coated with an adhesive or glue material (preferably covered with a protective film) is particularly advantageous. removable, a tube of glue and an element in the shape of a circular crown made of a material consisting of preferably synthetic fibers (eg polyester) non-woven, in terry cloth or in velcro loop fabric. to the operator both the member for the assembly of a trap and the means of restraint.

In the various figures 1-10, identical components are designated by the same reference numbers as the following description of the various embodiments of the invention and will imply similar characteristics unless otherwise indicated.
In almeno una sua forma di attuazione il metodo secondo l’invenzione comprende le seguenti fasi : In at least one embodiment thereof, the method according to the invention comprises the following steps:
a) misurare la circonferenza di una sezione trasversale del tronco 1 di un albero; a) measuring the circumference of a cross section of the trunk 1 of a tree;
b) predisporre un membro comprendente una parete conformata come la superficie laterale di un tronco di cono 150 con angolo al vertice compreso fra 3 e 177°, preferibilmente fra 5°-175 ° e vantaggiosamente fra 15° e 165°, essendo la base inferiore del tronco di cono di lunghezza maggiore o uguale alla circonferenza; b) providing a member comprising a wall shaped like the lateral surface of a truncated cone 150 with apex angle between 3 and 177 °, preferably between 5 ° -175 ° and advantageously between 15 ° and 165 °, the lower base being of the truncated cone of length greater than or equal to the circumference;
c) circondare il tronco 1 con tale parete in corrispondenza della sezione ponendo a contatto la base inferiore della parete col tronco 1 dell’albero; d) fissare il membro nella configurazione ottenuta alla fine della fase c; c) surround the trunk 1 with this wall in correspondence with the section, placing the lower base of the wall in contact with the trunk 1 of the tree; d) fixing the member in the configuration obtained at the end of step c;
e) predisporre su almeno una porzione di tale membro dei mezzi di trattenimento 30 di tipo chimico o fisico, preferibilmente almeno uno strato di un materiale di trattenimento chimico o fisico, con tale porzione circondante il tronco 1 ed inclinata rispetto all’asse 11 del tronco 1 di un angolo α compreso fra 3 e 177°, preferibilmente fra 5°-175° e vantaggiosamente fra 15° e 165°. e) providing on at least a portion of said member some chemical or physical retention means 30, preferably at least one layer of a chemical or physical retaining material, with this portion surrounding the trunk 1 and inclined with respect to the axis 11 of the trunk 1 of an angle Î ± comprised between 3 and 177 °, preferably between 5 ° -175 ° and advantageously between 15 ° and 165 °.
Advantageously, this method allows, for example, to assemble a plurality of members for the assembly of an insect trap 200 according to the invention having a wall shaped like a truncated cone sector to obtain a trap 200 having a wall shaped like the trunk of cone 150 which originates from the trunk and surrounds it. Alternatively, it is possible to cut out a segment along an apothem having a wall shaped like a truncated cone 150 and to arrange the wall around the trunk of the tree.
Risultano quindi vantaggiosi i membri per il montaggio di una trappola per insetti comprendenti The members for mounting an insect trap comprising are therefore advantageous
- una parete conformata come la superficie laterale di un tronco di cono 150 avente angolo al vertice compreso fra 3° e 177° con la superficie della parete riportante una pluralità di cerchi concentrici alle basi del tronco di cono ed almeno un segmento lungo un apotema; o - a wall shaped like the lateral surface of a truncated cone 150 having an angle at the vertex comprised between 3 ° and 177 ° with the surface of the wall bearing a plurality of concentric circles at the bases of the truncated cone and at least one segment along an apothem; or
- una parete conformata come un settore di tronco di cono con angolo al vertice compreso fra 3° e 177°, con la superficie della parete riportante una pluralità di archi di circonferenza concentrici alle basi del settore; - a wall shaped like a truncated cone sector with apex angle between 3 ° and 177 °, with the surface of the wall showing a plurality of circular arcs concentric with the bases of the sector;
con detto membro essendo ritagliabile lungo detti cerchi, detto raggio, detti archi e detto segmento. with said member being cut-out along said circles, said radius, said arcs and said segment.
These members allow the operator to easily prepare a member comprising a wall shaped like the lateral surface of a truncated cone 150 with a vertex angle between 3 and 177 ° which has the lower base of the truncated cone of greater or equal length to the circumference of the trunk 1 of the tree by cutting the members mentioned along a selected arc of circumference or a selected circle and called apothem.
Una vantaggiosa e alternativa forma di attuazione il metodo comprende le seguenti fasi: An advantageous and alternative embodiment, the method comprises the following steps:
a) misurare la circonferenza di una sezione trasversale del tronco 1 di un albero; a) measuring the circumference of a cross section of the trunk 1 of a tree;
b) predisporre un membro 20 comprendente una falda 10 , con la falda 10 individuante almeno un bordo concavo 4 e due estremità 3, 3’ adiacenti alle parti terminali del bordo concavo 4 , essendo il bordo concavo 4 di lunghezza maggiore o uguale alla circonferenza; b) prepare a member 20 comprising a flap 10, with the flap 10 identifying at least one concave edge 4 and two ends 3, 3â € ™ adjacent to the terminal parts of the concave edge 4, the concave edge 4 being longer than or equal to the circumference ;
c) avvolgere la falda 10 attorno al tronco 1 in corrispondenza della sezione ponendo a contatto il bordo concavo 4 col tronco 1 e inclinando la falda 10 rispetto all’asse 11 del tronco 1 di un angolo α compreso fra 3 e 177°, preferibilmente fra 5°-175° e vantaggiosamente fra 15° e 165°; c) wrap the flap 10 around the trunk 1 in correspondence with the section by placing the concave edge 4 in contact with the log 1 and tilting the flap 10 with respect to the axis 11 of the log 1 by an angle Î ± between 3 and 177 °, preferably between 5 ° -175 ° and advantageously between 15 ° and 165 °;
d) fissare il membro 20 nella configurazione ottenuta alla fine della fase c ; e) predisporre su almeno una porzione di superficie del membro 20 dei mezzi di trattenimento 30 di tipo chimico o fisico, preferibilmente almeno uno strato di un materiale di trattenimento chimico o fisico, con tale porzione circondante il tronco 1 ed inclinata di un angolo α compreso fra 3 e 177°, preferibilmente fra 5°-175 °, vantaggiosamente fra 15° e 165°. d) fixing the member 20 in the configuration obtained at the end of step c; e) providing on at least a surface portion of the member 20 some chemical or physical retention means 30, preferably at least one layer of a chemical or physical retaining material, with this portion surrounding the trunk 1 and inclined by an angle Î ± between 3 and 177 °, preferably between 5 ° -175 °, advantageously between 15 ° and 165 °.
This embodiment advantageously allows the insect trap to be shaped in a simple and practical manner by simply wrapping a flap around the trunk of a tree without having to assemble several elements together.
The embodiments in which the concave edge (4) has a curvilinear profile, preferably circular, are preferred, since this facilitates both the winding of the flap and minimizes any interstices between the circumference and the trap. The presence of these interstices is not a problem in the case of processionaries as they have such dimensions that they prevent their passage through the interstices. Advantageously, if the concave edge 4 has a circular profile as shown in Fig. 3, the interstices have smaller dimensions and this also allows to obtain a trap 200 having a wall shaped like a truncated cone 150.
A member 21 for mounting an insect trap is therefore advantageous, as shown in Fig.2, comprising at least a planar portion 25 showing a plurality of concentric centers and at least a first radius 21 of said circles; with said member 21 which can be cut out along said circles, said radius, said arcs and said segment. This member as it allows the operator to easily obtain the flap 10 to be wound on the log having a concave edge 4 of suitable length. In fact, the member 20 of figure 3, comprising a flap 10 identifying at least one concave edge 4 and two ends 3, 3â € ™ adjacent to the terminal parts of the concave edge 4, can be advantageously made by cutting out a first selected circle, of greater length or equal to the circumference of the trunk of Figure 1, from the planar surface 25 of the member 21 of Figure 2. The surface of the portion 25 of this member 21 shows in fact a plurality of concentric circles. The two ends 3 and 3â € ™ of the pitch can be obtained, for example, by cutting along the axis a-aâ € ™ the member 21 of figure 2 up to the center of the circles before or after cutting the first selected circle. Alternatively, they can be obtained by cutting out a circular sector (not shown) concentric with the circles. Preferably this sector has an angle comprised between 20 ° and 25 °, preferably 15 °.
Furthermore, the edge 7 of the flap 10 opposite the concave edge 4 can also be advantageously obtained by cutting out from the planar surface 25 of the member 21 a second circle with a greater radius than the first selected circle. In this way it is possible to easily size the surface of the trap on which to arrange the holding means 30.
The fixing step d) can be performed either by fixing the member 20 to the shaft or, more preferably, by fixing the two ends 3â € ™, 3 together (for example with adhesive tape not shown) overlapping them (as shown in Figure 4) or by matching the profiles 5, 5â € ™ (shown in Figure 3), of the two ends 3, 3â € ™. In this way the member is secured in the configuration obtained at the end of phase c) without having to operate invasive procedures such as drilling the trunk or applying adhesive or glues to the tree that could cause infections or burns.
When a circular sector with an angle between 20 ° and 25 °, preferably 15 °, concentric with the circles is further shown on the planar development portion of the member 21, this sector can be cut out. By making the two edges 5,5â € ™ obtained by cutting the sector coincide in phase d), a trap 200 is easily obtained, inclined by an angle Î ± between 15 ° and 177 °.
Tale metodo comprende la seguente fase: In at least one embodiment, the method allows the trap 200 of figure 8 to be mounted in which there is a housing 50 for liquids which can be advantageously filled with liquid glue, preferably with a butyl base. This method includes the following step:
Risultano preferiti i metodi in cui l’elemento anulare à ̈ stato realizzato tramite le seguenti fasi: - fixing to the pitch 10 or to the wall an annular element 120 surrounding the concave edge 4, with this annular element forming with the pitch 10 or with the wall an angle β comprised between 80 and 100 °, preferably 90 °. In this way, a housing 50 able to contain liquids is provided. This housing is open and is defined by the walls constituted by the pitch 10, or by the wall, and by the annular element 120. The methods in which the annular element has been made through the following phases are preferred:
-predisporre un ulteriore elemento planare 100 avente sviluppo longitudinale in cui un bordo longitudinale presenta una dentellatura 60; - arranging a further planar element 100 having a longitudinal development in which a longitudinal edge has an indentation 60;
-piegare di angolo compreso fra 80° e 100° l’elemento planare 100) lungo una linea longitudinale 70) passante le creste 80 della dentellatura 60; - bending the planar element 100) with an angle between 80 ° and 100 ° along a longitudinal line 70) passing through the crests 80 of the indentation 60;
- fix, preferably gluing, the indentation 60 to the pitch 10 or to the wall by arranging the indentation 60 along a concentric circumference to the concave edge 4 of the pitch 10 (when the member 20 has not yet been fixed around the tree trunk) or to the circumference of the tree trunk when member 20 has been fixed around the tree trunk.
Preferably, the annular element is fixed in correspondence with the outer edge 7 of the pitch 10 or of the major base of the truncated cone.
Figure 8 shows a trap, obtained according to this embodiment of the method, in which the housing 50 is open and is defined by its walls which consist of the pitch 10 and the annular element 120.
Consequently, an assembly kit for an insect trap is advantageous which further comprises a planar element 100 (shown in figure 9) in accordance with claim 8 and a further planar element 100 having a longitudinal development in which a longitudinal edge has an indentation 60, with said planar element 100 being able to be folded along the longitudinal line 70 passing through the crests 80 of the indentation 60.
Figure 6 shows a trap 200 mounted according to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention. This method foresees, before carrying out step c), to position a gasket 110, preferably of a width greater than 5-6 cm, in perfect adherence around the trunk 1 of the tree and to place in step c) the pitch 10 or the member 20 around the gasket 110 in perfect adherence to form a housing 50 capable of containing liquids. This housing is defined by two walls constituted by the gasket 110 and by the pitch 10 or by the wall.
Vantaggiosamente negli alloggiamenti 50 viene versata colla liquida, preferibilmente colla a base di butile che presenta i vantaggi già citati in precedenza. Advantageously, liquid glue is poured into the housings 50, preferably butyl-based glue which has the advantages already mentioned above.
It follows that a kit according to the invention is particularly advantageous, which further comprises a gasket and double-sided tape with which to fix the gasket to the trunk of the tree.
In the trap 200 of figure 6 this glue is not shown, but holding means 30 arranged on the flap 10 and consisting of non-woven polyethylene fibers arranged on the flap 10.
In an alternative embodiment, the annular element 120 is advantageously present on a member in accordance with the invention and shown in Figure 10, in which the planar portion 25 has a circular shape. This annular element 120 can be cut out and originates around the planar portion 25 and surrounds it, extends in an inclined direction with respect to this portion 25 by an angle of between 80 ° and 100 °, preferably 90 °. In this way, by wrapping the flap 10 around the trunk of the tree, obtainable by cutting out a circle selected from the member 20 of figure 10, it is possible to mount a trap 200 having a housing 50 able to contain liquids such as that shown in figure 8. In at least one embodiment the member can be made starting from a sheet of metal or plastic material. PVC or polyethylene sheets, preferably having a thickness of 0.25 mm, advantageously allow both to be thermoformed and to be wrapped and, once fixed, the member 20 in the configuration obtained at the end of step c) it is sufficiently rigid. Therefore, the members according to the invention obtained by thermoforming from a sheet of plastic material, preferably PCV and even more preferably from a 0.25 mm PCV sheet, are preferable. The thermoforming also allows the annular element 120 to be obtained on the member without having to resort to the assembly of the aforementioned planar element 100 thus simplifying the assembly operations of the trap.
The members for assembling insect traps are also advantageous in which the planar portion 25 or the truncated conical surface is coated with at least one layer of chemical or physical retention material. Preferably, the chemical-type retaining material is a glue or adhesive material, advantageously butyl-based glue, and is covered with a removable protective film.
The methods and kits according to the invention are also advantageous in which the holding means comprise an attractant for insects, preferably a pheromone, since in this way it is possible to use the trap to capture different types of insects at the same time, for example. for example the pine processionaries and tiger mosquitoes.
