1418213 Reels and casings H H WEICK 1 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 50890/73 Heading B8M A reel for at most two lines, e.g. washing lines, includes a housing 1 having at least one line outlet aperture lh in a side wall and defining an axially open cylindrical chamber 1b, and a spool 2 rotatably mounted in the chamber 1b, the spool 2 comprising a core 2a provided with means, e.g. eyes 2h for fastening the lines thereto, and radially extending circular side elements 2c, 2b formed integrally and coaxially with the core, one of said side elements having a diameter greater than that of said chamber 1b and closing the axially open end of the chamber, and having a peripheral portion which overlaps the housing around the chamber, one of said peripheral portion and housing having a blocking member manually movable to and from a position in which it co-operates with one of a plurality of holes or recesses in a blocking ring integral with the other of said peripheral portion and housing, the blocking ring being located in the radial zone in which said peripheral portion overlaps the housing. In a preferred embodiment the blocking ring is formed on one wall 1c of the chamber 1b, and an axially movable bolt 8 is provided in a side member 2c of the spool 2, the bolt engaging recesses 1f in the blocking ring. In an alternative embodiment, a radially slidable member is provided in one side member of the spool and engages recesses formed on the wall 1c. In a further embodiment, the blocking ring is formed integrally with a side member 2c of the spool 2 and a radially movable blocking member is provided in the wall of the housing 1. A handle 2i may be provided for rotating the spool or a spiral spring may be provided secured to the spool and housing. The spool is preferably rotatably mounted on a boss 1e in the housing. In a preferred embodiment, the spool is divided into two sections by a partition 2f for the reception of two lines or a single looped line, in which case two apertures 1h, 1i are provided in the housing 1. The reel is preferably moulded from thermoplastic material.
