RELAZIONE TECNICA TECHNICAL REPORT

Premessa Premise

The present report intends to give a description of the utility model concerning a device which, placed on the eroding coasts, and suitably anchored, is able to favor the nourishment of the coasts themselves. Erosion is a very current problem that is contrasted with very impactful and equally expensive coastal engineering works, such as the "breakwater cliffs", the "groynes" perpendicular to the shore, the transport of dredged sands from another site "soft nourishment "etc. The innovative technology object of this report, on the other hand, wants to give an answer that is as much as possible in respect of the environment and nature in general, and that keeps the construction costs as low as possible, both from the production point of view and from that installation.

Tecnologia e applicazioni Technology and applications

The coasts almost everywhere, and not only in Italy, are subject to the phenomenon of coastal erosion which produces not only distorting effects on the landscape, but also entails a whole series of problems for anthropogenic settlements in the area. The causes of the phenomenon are different and are not only related to the aforementioned anthropogenic phenomena that modify the coastal dynamics, to the detriment of the balance of the coastline. In fact, among the main causes there is also eustatism and in the last few years, the increase in water resulting from the rise in the earth's temperature which has led to the uncontrolled melting of glaciers and polar ice caps. On the coasts the settlement of man is now very present, so much so as to be considered the stretches of coast, very often real urban territories, also subject to primary as well as secondary urbanization interventions. It goes without saying that erosion, therefore, and not just for a simple alteration of the coast line, must be fought and the current and past trend has always been to build large maritime works, which on the one hand protect the coast from the incidence of wave motions, and on the other hand they favor, mainly due to the effect of diffraction, some "calm" zones. In fact, the "breakwater" barriers opposing the incident wave motions slow down and block the direct erosion of the coasts, and thanks to the calm zones that are created behind the barriers, due to the effect of diffraction as well as the rolling of the waves, they produce an advancement of the coast in the characteristic form of the "tomboli" of the coast. Fighting erosion also means ensuring a balance of coastal solid transport that has been altered for various reasons. Traditional works, such as barriers and groynes perpendicular to the shore, often interrupt coastal transport to favor the nourishment of a coast, altering the balance of other adjacent stretches of coast. The network system object of this report, on the other hand, by allowing the direct incidence of wave motions, limits the interruption of the coastal solid transport to a minimum, to the advantage in any case of the nourishment of the coast. The system consists of a mesh box made of biodegradable materials, with inside the other variable mesh nets, with mesh sizes decreasing from top to bottom, i.e. the base of the external box, creates a filter that retains the sand particles in motion with the waves incident on the coast. In other words, it achieves the same filter effect that the surface layers of the coasts perform when a wave motion hits them. The filter built inside the box, however, allows the water of the wave motions to move away to the detriment of the particles that remain trapped. In this way, the coast is advanced without interrupting the energy of the wave motion that hits the stretch of coast; the longitudinal coastal transport is practically unchanged, and in any case a nourishment of the coast is obtained. Clearly, this system of networks can be repeated with several modules positioned one on top of the other even at different times, when the purpose is to raise the portion of the coast as well as have a nourishment effect. Furthermore, the modules can also be installed in transversal series, when the nourishment effect in the project is very large and extended in the transversal direction of the coast.

From an operational point of view, depending on the exposure of the coast and the incident wave movements, it will still be appropriate to have the net boxes with wooden poles or other materials, possibly natural and biodegradable, fixed in the ground, in order to prevent the boxes from being dragged along the coast or just moved, making the nourishment effect useless.
