Abstract

A transversal notch in blocks of the central row of the tread band (14), communicates with a central circumferential groove (16) and extends beyond longitudinal median plane of the central rows, such that ratio of axial width of each central row and overall axial width of tread band between shoulder ends of the tire, is not less than 0.18. Transversal grooves of shoulder rows are inclined in a direction opposing to that of the central rows. One continuous circumferential groove (16) straddles the tire equatorial plane (X-X). Two lateral circumferential grooves (15,17) on either sides of groove (16), have median planes (Y-Y,Z-Z) parallel to the equatorial plane. Several transversal grooves delimit the circumferential rows of blocks, central rows and external shoulder rows in the tread band. Each block of the central row has a pair of front and rear vertices in relation to predetermined running direction of the tire. The transversal grooves of the shoulder rows are inclined in a direction opposite to the inclination of the transversal grooves of the central rows. An independent claim is also included for pre-molded tread band.
