This invention relates to a process for the production of steel, especially for the production of steel using electric furnaces, which comprises a stage of loading the ferrous material into a fusion furnace, a stage of melting in which heat energy is provided to the ferrous material to increase its temperature to a level above the melting temperature and a stage of refining the steel in the liquid state deriving from the melting of the ferrous material.
