Abstract

Process for the production of high pressure hydrogen in molten carbonate fuel cells which is achieved using a suitable fuel, e.g. ethanol, higher alcohols, oxygenated hydrocarbons, etc., in such a way that the "reforming" reaction with fuel vapour is less influenced by pressure than in the case of non-oxygenated hydrocarbons, e.g. methane. This process is carried out at low temperatures and high pressures, giving a high hydrogen yield. It is also possible to use conventional non-oxygenated fuels or waste products following partial oxidative treatment and consequent conversion into ethanol or oxygenated hydrocarbons. The invention lies in the scientific field of industrial chemistry and in that applied to the production of hydrogen. <IMAGE>
