Abstract

This invention concerns a device and a method for dosing the analytes present in a blood sample. The device consists of a solid support in which a capillary channel is arranged to take a controlled quantity of the sample and direct it to the centre of an absorbent material, which because of its intrinsic characteristics or following chemical treatment, has the capacity to drain and distend the sample and separate the plasma from the blood. This layer is in intimate contact with an analytical element consisting of one or more membranes which receive the plasma or part of it. The membranes contain or support chemical and reactive substances useful for determining the analytes present in the blood sample, by means of reactions which lead to colour changes or other reactions which are, in any case, detectable eternally. The main application of the device described in this invention is in dosing the analytes contained in whole blood samples obtained by finger piercing. <IMAGE>
