Abstract
System for lighting parts of an aircraft, such as a helicopter, comprising three position lights of low intensity 10 mounted on the aircraft, with two of the position lights mounted in an anterior position laterally spaced from the centre of the aircraft and a third position light mounted in a posterior position positioned centrally on the aircraft. The three position lights constitute a triangular lighting formation which indicates the position of the aircraft during secret tactical operations. The position lights include a chemiluminescent light source 12 and a support 22 for supporting the chemiluminescent light source. Each support is fixed to a part of the aircraft by means of a rod 52 and a pair of locking strips 60. The chemiluminescent light source can be seen from within the support within a restricted radius of the aircraft. Preferably the chemiluminescent light source generates infrared radiation which can be detected by means of night vision glasses worn by the pilots of aircraft flying in the vicinity. <IMAGE>
