A new process of synthesis for the preparation of erdosteine, 2-(2-oxotetrahydrothiene-3- ylaminocarbonylmethylthio) acetic acid, by the reaction of thiodiglycollic acid with ethyl chloroformate with condensation of the mixed anhydride so obtained with homocysteine-γ-thiolactone is described.
