E' descritto un motogeneratore (10) che comprende un motore alternativo a pistone libero e a doppio effetto (12) accoppiato direttamente ad un generatore elettrico lineare (14, 16).E' descritto anche un gruppo elettrogeneratore ad alto rendimento comprendente due di tali motogeneratori, uno con motore a combustione interna (10) e uno con motore a vapore, l'energia termica prodotta dal primo viene utilizzata per generare vapore per l'alimentazione del secondo.L'invenzione è utilizzabile vantaggiosamente in veicoli a trazione ibrida.
