Abstract

A method is described for refurbishing or regenerating the hole 2 of a rotor 1 in the rotor of a turbine machine having a hole situated at the centre by means of the steps of (i) depositing a welding material 13 on the surface of the hole on at least one portion of the axial length so as to reduce the internal diameter of the hole 2 and roughening the surface of the hole on the portion of the axial length and (ii) working the welding material 13 so as to smooth out the surface of the hole. According to the method, the step of depositing the welding material 13 is prefabricated so as to deposit a welding bead 7 circumferentially about the internal surface in a multiple pass process by inserting a welding nozzle 9 in the hole 2 and simultaneously imparting a relative movement, both rotational and linear, between the rotor 1 and the welding nozzle 9. The internal surface of the hole is premachined to increase the internal diameter prior to the step of depositing the welding material 13 and post-machined to the original diameter of the hole after the welding. <IMAGE>
