Un filtro per le radiazioni solari, particolarmente adatto per lenti da sole comprende, impiantati con opportuni valori di energia, dosi e temperatura, alcuni strati di ioni di metalli sotto la superficie del vetro chiaro o colorato.Le lenti da sole hanno caratteristiche molto elevate particolarmente apprezzate in condizioni estreme.E' possibile, sfruttando la grande flessibilità della tecnica di impiantazione, avere lenti da sole sfumate e lenti da sole presentanti differenti gradazioni di filtraggio sulla stessa lente.Gli strati impiantati sono costituiti preferibilmente da ioni gallio, titanio ecc.
