Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for repopulating a seabed by means of marine phanerogam cuttings, and more particularly of Posidonia oceanica cuttings. This procedure for repopulating a seabed with marine phanerogams consists in recovering the cuttings and implanting them in the seabed to be repopulated, and is characterized by the fact that cuttings are collected consisting of rhizomes (1) bearing bundles of leaves, at a depth greater than that of the backdrop to be repopulated, and each cutting is fixed on this backdrop by means of a stake (7), placing the cuttings spaced from each other. Preferably, the cuttings consist of plagiotropic rhizomes with at least two bundles of leaves, and they are arranged in a horizontal position at reciprocal distances of not more than 20 centimeters. The cuttings can be installed individually or in pairs, by means of pegs carrying a simple or double hook. This procedure ensures excellent survival of the implanted cuttings, and is highly effective for the repopulation of coastal seabed.
