Abstract
This invention relates to a process for the disinfection and removal of spent biomass wastes from waters originating from biological denitrification processes comprising, after the denitrification stage, a stage of aeration or oxygenation and one or more filtration stages, in which ozone is used as the oxidant. In particular, according to circumstances, the ozone may be added to the aeration stage or after successive filtrations, but in any event before the final adsorptive filtration. Ozone treatment makes it possible to block undesired bacterial growth, and to remove microorganisms, the spent biomass wastes present after denitrification and other disturbing substances generally present in the water, such as humic acids and nitrites. <IMAGE>
