Abstract

A syringe comprises a plunger (6) slidable in a barrel (1) mounting a needle (4). A protective sleeve (12) is slidable from retracted to advanced positions, exposing and covering completely the needle respectively, and is permanently lockable (23,25) in the advanced position. In the retracted position, the sleeve is secured by a clamp (16,17) engaged with a retaining rim on the barrel rear end. The plunger stem (7) rear end has means for releasing the clamp when the forward stroke of the plunger is almost completed to allow the sleeve to be moved to its advanced position. There is pref. a spring fitted between the barrel and sleeve to automatically move the released sleeve to the advanced position.
