Abstract
6-fluoro-6-methylpregn-4-ene-3,20-diones and 6-fluoro-6- methylpregna-1,4-diene-3,20-diones of general formula <IMAGE> where: in the positions 1 and 2 the bond can be single or double, X is hydroxy and Y is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, or else X and Y are both chlorine, R1 is hydroxy or acyloxy having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, R2 is hydroxy or acyloxy having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, R3 is hydrogen, α-hydroxy, α-methyl or β-methyl, and their 16,17- and 17,21- cyclic acetals and ketals, particularly the 16,17-acetonides, display high anti-inflammatory activity but less undesired side-effects than the known steroids.
