Abstract

Pregnadienones of formula (I) are new: (where L is H, propanoyl, isonicotinoyl, formyl or pentaoyl). The cpds. are antiinflammatories, useful for the treatment of oedema, dermatoses, pruritis, eczema and sunburn. They have good local activity but little general activity. Side effects are therefore minimal. In an example, 9 alpha, 11 beta-dichloro-16 alpha-methyl-21-hydroxy pregna-1,4-diene-3,20-dione was prepd. from the 21-acetoxy deriv. itself prepd. according to the parent patent, by saponification using KOH in methanol.
