Rapid cooking appts. for food in partic. pasta, e.g. spaghetti comprises; a volumetric distributor of food doses, a first pressurised pre-cooking chamber and two successive atmospheric-pressure cooking completion chambers arranged in series. A circuit for the prepn. of super heated water has two heaters and supplies superheated water rapidly into the precooking chamber. Het recovering means recover heat from the steam discharged for precooking chamber and from the liquid drained (from the dose of cooked food. A programmable electronic system controls and times the apparatus and incorporates pneumatic actuators.
