Abstract
The diphenyl ether derivs. of formula (I) and their optical isomers are new: In (I) RCH2X, Y and Z are all in meta or para positions. X is O, S, SO or SO2. Y and Z = H, F, Cl, Br, NO2, CH3 or OCH3. R = H, F, Cl, CHF2 or CF3. R2 = ethyl, n- or iso-propyl, isopropenyl or tert. butyl. R3 = H, CN, or C CH. R4 = H, F, Cl, CH3 or OCH3). (I) are useful as insecticides and acaricides useful for protecting crops, soil and animals (in which they have systemic activity. They have superior residual activity compared with pyrethrins and are esp. effective against Heliothis virescens and Culex pipiens.
