Abstract
Red cells in a blood sample are determined by passing a predetermined vol. of the sample along a conduit. Known vol. of agglutinating agent (I) is introduced into the conduit with a predetermined vol. of dye (II) soln. The mixt. in the conduit is agitated to agglutinate the red cells, which are then decanted from the conduit, and the (I) concn. in the plasma flowing along the conduit is measured. (I) has a high positive charge. (II) is used at a known concn., it is water-soluble, does not penetrate the cells, does not form a ppte. with (I) or with soluble components of the sample and does not lyse the cells or alter their vol. Method is applicable to liq. sample analysis of the continuous flow type without centrifuging etc.
