Abstract
Prodn. involves (i) incomplete combustion of the H2S in a cylindrical heating space in a stream of O2-contg. gas, with formation of S vapour and SO2, (ii) condensn. of S vapour, (iii) a 2-stage catalytic oxidn. of the unreacted H2S with SO3, with formation of S vapour in each stage, and (iv) condensation of the S vapour after each catalytic oxidn. stage. In stage (i), (a) the H2S-contg. gas stream is led in tangentially to the inner surface of the heating space and vortexes in the heating space and (b) the O2-contg. gas stream is led in at an angle of 10-18 deg. to the H2S-contg. gas stream, with a linear velocity ratio (H2S-contg. gas stream):(O2-contg. gas stream) of 1:1.8 to 1:2.2.
