Abstract

Flame-resistance of organic high polymer (e.G., foamed polyurethane) is increased by mixing the granular incombustible material, and the prod. is usable as building material (e.g., exterior wall, flooring partition wall, etc.). Incombustible porous pellet core body is Pearlite, "Shirasu" balloon, silica balloon, pumice, artificial porous stone, etc. inorganic foamable material is Borax, sodium metaborate, sodium silicate, sodium matasilicate, sec. sodium phosphate, sodium metaphosphate, etc., used as mixt. For example. (1) Granular pearlite (mean dia: 3mm) 50 pts. wt. (2) Borax 140 pts. wt. (3) Caustic soda 30 pts. wt. (4) Water 30 pts. wt. was used. (2), (3) and (4) are heated at 110 degrees C and homogeneously mixed by stirring, and (1) immersed in the mixt. with stirring for 5 mins. The pores of pearlite were filled with foamable material, and the prod. had sp. g. is approx. 1.4 and is easily mixed with resin. Prod. is hydroscopic, and is pref. encapsulated with non-permeable film e.g. polyethylene by coating.
