Abstract

Liq. coolant-lubricant compsn. for metalworking with or without chip removal contains: (a) 2-8 wt.% of organic polysulphides of formula (RI-VArb)c(Sx)d (I) RI, RII...RV = H or open-chain or cyclic (un)satd. 1-40C hydrocarbyl or deriv. thereof, Ar = mono- or polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbyl or deriv. thereof, b = 0-5, c = 2-10, d = 1-9, x = 1-6, provided that in at least 1/3 by wt. of this component, c = at least 3, d = at least 2, x = 2-6, and that the active S content is at least 40 % of the total S content; (b) 3-12.5 % of an emulsifier with detergent effect and/or 0.5-15 % of an additive improving the lubrication or modifying the viscosity; (c) 0.5-1.5 % of a corrosion inhibitor; (d) 63-94 % of a carrier material comprising a mineral oil deriv. or a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent; and possibly, at the expense of the carrier solvent, (e) 0.1-0.3 % antioxidant, 0.01-0.5 % biocides, 0.01-0.1 % organic colorant or 0.2-1.0 % masking odorant.
