Abstract
Coating compsn. comprising (a) film forming components consisting of (I) a polyepoxide with a 1,2-epoxy functionality of more than 1.0 and a mol.wt. of less than 6000 and (II) and amine-contg. vinyl copolymer, in a wt. ratio (I):(II) of 1:19 to 19:1; (b) a catalyst consisting of a soluble salt of a gp. IIA metal in a wt.ratio (b):(a) of 0.1-5:100; and (c) organic solvents. (I) is esp. a polyglycidyl ester of satd. polyphenol, polyglycidyl ether of polyhydric alcohol, polyglycidyl ether of a cpd. with a N-contg. ring or a mixt. (II) is pref. a copolymer of 5-30 wt.% of an ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid and 70-95 wt.% alkyl (meth)acrylates, styrene or mixts., and in which 5-100 mol.% of the carboxyl gps. in the copolymer are imidised with an alkyleneimine such as propyleneimine or ethyleneimine. Pref. (II) is a copolymer of 10-25 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid and 75-90 wt.% alkyl (meth)acrylates with 1-20C in the alkyl gp., in which 50-95 mol.% of the COOH gps. are imidised with propyleneimine or ethyleneimine. The compsns. are esp. useful as automobile refinishing lacquers, giving finishes with good appearance, durability, adhesion and solvent resistance, and which cure rapidly at relatiVely low baking temps. as required for automobile refinishing.
