Abstract

The cable (11) is received in a semi-cylindrical seat in a block (15) of insulating material. Three transverse slots are formed in the block, in one of which a metal strip is disposed. The strip has a bent tab which supports the pair of connector needles (36) which are of spring steel. Each needle has an insulating layer over part of it to avoid it shorting to the conductive braid (21) of the cable. The block (15) forms a first jaw of the pair of jaws and is arranged to cooperate with the second jaw (61) which has a semi-cylindrical seat (62). The second jaw is guided for movement parallel to the two shoulders (26) of a support frame (17) by a vertically-extending member (63). To connect a transceiver (10) to the cable, the second jaw is engaged with the cable. A lever (67) is operated to actuate the rods (66) and cause the two jaws to move together. Needles (52) then pierce the outer insulation (22) of the cable and engage the braid (21) at diametrally-opposed points. The other needles (36) pierce the outer insulation, the braid and the inner insulation and carry the insulated parts of the needles into correspondence with the braid.
