Abstract

4-12C Olefins are converted to propylene by treatment over an opt. modified zeolitic cpd. (I), opt. contg. a binder, at space velocity 5-200 kg/hr. per kg pure (I) at 400-600 deg. C. (I) is a silicalite, boralite, chromosilicate or zeolites ZSM-5 or -11 of silica:alumina mole ratio at least 350. Pref. silicalite-1 (Ia), opt. modified with Cr, Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba, is used (a) at atmos. pressure and space velocity 5-50 per hr.; or (b) at 1.5-7.5 atmos. and space velocity 50-200 per hr. Esp. (Ia) are preactivated under process conditions for 8-12 hr. Pref. the olefins are isobutenes, linear butenes or 5-8C. The catalysts provide a high yield of propylene (and opt. also some ethylene) and can be used for a long time before regeneration or replacement is necessary.
