Abstract
Two-component adhesive consists of (a) a soln. of chloro- sulphonated polyethylene in at least one vinyl monomer, and a polymerisation catalyst comprising at least one free radical initiator, and opt. a promoter or accelerator for the initiator, and (b) an activator formed by the condensation prods. from butyraldehyde and aniline and contg. at least 70 (80-98) wt.% w.r.t. (b), of N-phenyl-3,5-diethyl -2-propyl-1,2-dihydropyridine (I). (a) Peroxy cpds. are esp. used as initiators. Accelerators include tert. amines and sulphimides; the amt. is less than 10 (0.1-0.75) wt.% of (a). A salt of a transition metal may be included. Opt., the compsn. contains 0.1-1 wt.% of a chelating agent, e.g. Na EDTA, 0-10 wt.% of a cross-linking agent, e.g. a dimethacrylate and 0.1-1 wt.% of an inhibitor to give max. pot life, pref. 2,6-di-tert.butyl-4-methyl-phenol. There is less slippage between the two components when applied to a surface. The odour and colour of the compsn. are improved.
