Abstract

A pair of pedal levers are pivotally mounted near their centres, carrying pedals on their front ends, and coupled to driving chains at their rear ends. These driving chains engage a toothed gear wheel on each side of the hub. These wheels transmit power to the hub and hence to the road wheel via unidirectional clutches. The power ratio is varied by changing the distances between the chain mountings and the pedal lever pivots.
