Abstract

The indexing tool head (1) is esp. for a lathe (3). It comprises a housing (2) containing a rotatable tool carrier (4) which is axially (Z-Z) slidable between a position in which it is coupled (6) to the housing under spring action (5) and a release position. A central element (9), rotatable by a reversible motor (14), has a V-contour peripheral groove (17) engaged by a radial pin (18) in the carrier (4) so that the latter can be lifted by rotation of the element in either direction before being rotated by it. A locking bolt (19) in the housing is actuated (23) to engage one of a number of recesses (21) in the carrier to lock this in position.
