Abstract

The system cuts a continuous paper sheet into lengthwise strips in a rotary machine, the cut lines running in the lengthwise direction of the sheet. Immediately before cutting, a moistening agent is applied to the paper sheet over an area running in the lengthwise direction and on either side of the cut lines. This can be done by steam jets of relatively low pressure, delivered via nozzles aimed at the paper, and mounted adjacent to a straight portion of the path followed by it between two guide rollers. The nozzle can be opposite the roller preceding the straight portion.
