Abstract

The IC engine includes an air cooled or liq. cooled cylinder head (2). It has an air cooled cylinder (16) and a piston (14) of low thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient material with a uniform clearance between the cylinder (16) and the piston (14) around the circumference. The cylinder (16) is provided with fins for cooling by natural convection. The liq. coolant used to cool the cylinder head may be the fuel supplied from a tank (24) via a fuel injection pump (10) to the injector (8).
