Abstract
Metal pieces of high thermal and electrical conductivity are welded together using electrodes whose electrical resistance decreases as the temp. increases. The electrodes are resiliently pressed on to the pieces. The electrodes are heated by the Joule effect and the heat generated is transferred by conduction to the pieces. Used for joining together of Cu and Al tubes, e.g. as elements of a refrigeration circuit. Excellent weld quality is achieved using low cost, simple operation. The heat transmitted by the electrodes either melts the welding material or transforms the pieces to be welded into their plastic state. The electrodes may be movable towards the pieces to apply pressure during the joining operation. Brazing, other than torch brazing, can be used.
