Abstract

The scarifying machine automatically cuts repetitive, decorative incisions in the top surfaces of dough pieces. Formed dough pieces are conveyed longitudinally beneath a scarifying head. The head comprises a support frame which is reciprocated in a horizontal plane, laterally at right angles to the longitudinal axes of the dough pieces. Suspended from the frame, at least two feeler arms, fitted with scarifying blades, e.g. commercial razor blades, are continually raised and lowered. The vertical reciprocation is synchronised with the lateral reciprocation and with the conveyor progression. Each time an arm descends, its blade, cuts an incision in a longitudinally advancing dough piece as the blade is displaced sideways of the piece. The device is intended for mfg. loaves of bread, partic. french. stick loaves. The decorator can be adapted for any scale of industrial bakery as well as for manual prodn.
