Abstract
Compsn. contains (A) a monomer having formula (Ia) and/or (Ib): (where R1 is 2-12, esp. 2-6, C alkylene or 2-12 esp. 4-12, C oxyalkylene contg. >=1 O-atom bonding one or more 2+C alkylene segments) and opt. one or more of components (1) an 8-20 C alkyl acrylate and/or -methacrylate or an 8-20C alkenyl acrylate and/or -methacrylate, (2) a di- 1-20C-alkyl furmarate, -maleate or -itaconate, (3) a vinyl ester of an 8-20C satd. or unsatd. aliphatic acid, (4) dicyclopentenyl acrylate and/or -methacrylate and/or (5) a polyethylenically unsatd. monomer contg. >=2 gps. having formula H2C= ; (B) >=1 of the following constituents: a drying oil, a film-forming polymer, an organic polyisocyanate, a reaction prod. of an organic polyisocyanate with an alkyd resin or with a drying oil or a polisocyanate prepolymer, (C) a siccative and opt. (D) a stabiliser. The hardenable compsns. are used for coating and/or impregnating a substrate. (I) act as reactive diluents and have low viscosity, volatility and toxicity, are odourless, hydrophobic, resist hydrolysis and mix with polymers and/or resin-forming condensates. Prods. obtd. are softer than those obtd. with dicyclopentenyl (meth)acrylate.
