Abstract
Glass of the following compsn. is alkali-resistant and may be drawn into fibres: SiO2 50-62 pts. wt.; Al2O3 1-11 pts. wt.; ZrO2 4-10 pts. wt.; ZnO 0.5-7 pts. wt., Gp. IA metal oxide 10-19 pts. wt., Gp. IIA metla oxie 3-15 pts. wt. and pref. CaF2 1-4 pts. t. Pref. compsn. is (pts. wt.ed SiO2 61.2; Al2O3 5.3; ZrO2 8.5; ZnO 2.8; CaO5.1; MgO 0.1; Na2O 14.7; K2O 1.0 and CaF2 1.5. The glass compsn. may also contain 3-8 pts. wt. B2O3. The glass fibres are used to reinforce Portland cement. The glass compsn. is readily fibreised and is low in expensive zirconia.
