Abstract
Anionic exchange resin (I) having apparent density in water 0.18-0.2 g dry matter per ml., and water absorption capacity 69-73 wt.% by wt. of polymer, comprise nontoxic sytrene, acrylic or epoxy type resins. Specified resins have (a) for styrene resins crosslinking (CL) 1.5-2.5%, strong exchange capacity (SEC) 2.8-4 meq/g and total exchange capacity (TEC) 2.8-4 meq/g; (b) for acrylic resins CL 10-12%; SEC 2-3 meq/g, TEC 5.5-8 meq/q; (c) for epoxy resins CL 3-4%; SEC 2-5 meq/g, TEC 10-12.5 meq/g. Prepn comprises low-speed polymerisation of appropriate monomers at 50-80 degrees C using as catalyst 0.2-3% organic peroxide (pref. benzoyl peroxide (II) or lauroyl peroxide (III)) and 1.5-12% divinyl crosslinking agent, esp. divinylbenzene.
