Abstract
Gaseus mixt. is split into two component fractions according to mol. wt. using the centrifugal force generated in a cyclone separator having a central outlet and a conical outlet at a pressure of 5 to 1000 Hg abs. The pressure ratio P inlet/P central outlet is 1.5 to 10. The cone angle is 1 to 90 degrees, pref. 3 to 30 degrees. The streams issuing fom the cyclone are fed to further cyclones to give enrichment in the required components thus yielding a fractionation effect into higher and lower mol. wt. components. Isotopes of different atomic wts. can be sepd. as gaseous cpds. The cone outlet is not >2 min. To separate gaseous mixts, esp. gaseous cpds. of isotopes of particular use for separating UF6 into the two isotope forms.
