Abstract
Two-stage electrostatic precipitator comprises an ionizer and a collecting cell through which air to be cleaned is moved. The contaminant collecting plates in the collecting cell are cleaned by a vibrator which applies vibrations of variable frequency to the supports on which the plates are mounted. The vibrations are produced using a tank of compressed air which empties while actuating the vibrator so that as the air supply runs down the frequency of vibrations emitted by the vibrator decreases. Operation of the precipitator is controlled through a switch having an off position at which both the ionizer and the vibrator are inoperative, an on position in which only the ionizer is operative and a clean position in which only the vibrator is opeative. Used for sepg. powder like particles of =1 mu from the atmos. for recovery and re-use if desired. Increased cleaning efficiency can be achieved because by varying the frequency of vibrations a greater area of the collecting plate is reached.
