Abstract
The inlet cone from the outlet of a thermal cracking reactor for hydrocarbons to the tubular heat exchangers has outside of a cast cone with the smaller flange for the former and a greater flange for the latter, a stainless steel sheet casing. The space between the two is filled by a pourable heat resistant filling material which comes flush up to the inside face of the cone. Used to repair cracked cones which have become damaged by thermal shock when leaking water contacts the hot cone. It is also recommended as a prophylactic method to cut out down times and risk to human lives. Such cones have a much longer service life than conventional cones.
