Abstract
Mat and scratch-resistant, amorphous to crystalline films or sheets of film-forming thermoplastic matl. (I) and a filler contain 2-25, pref. 5-15, esp. 5.5-12 wt.%, w.r.t. (I), of glass microspheres (II) with a size of 0.5-50, pref. 0.5-20 mu and the tops of (II) protruding from the surface of the film are completely covered by (I). (I) can be poly-alkylene terephthalate, esp. polyethylene terephthalate, or a polyamide, esp. polyamide 6, 6,6, 11 or 12. (II) pref. are bonded to (I) with an adhesion promoter (IIIe. The film is produced by moulding a uniform mixt. of (I) and (IIe to a sheet and then drawing, whilst in the molten state, until the tops of (II) protrude but are covered by (I). It can be co-extruded with another film-forming plastics matl., e.g., PVC, polystyrene, chlorinated polyethylene, PVA or copolymers of acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene and/or polyethylene, and bonded and drawn in the liq. state. Used esp. as veneer, e.g., for furniture and doors, and wall cladding.
