Mixts of internal isomers of a linear vicinal disubstd alkane (I), of chain length 15-17C where the substituents are OH or O(CxH2xO)nH (II), (x=2-3, n=1-16) at least one of which is (II) and n should av. 3-10 in the mixt. which contains >=3 positional isomers, each of which is present as >2 mole % based on (I), are used in detergent compsns.
