Abstract
Provided is a molten steel container for holding a molten steel having a carbon content of 2 mass% or less, said container being provided with a refractory lining structure which comprises a steel shell, a permanent refractory layer and a work refractory layer in this order from the outside. The work refractory layer is divided into both a steel bath section which is to come into contact with the molten steel and a slag line section which is to come into contact with a slag present on the molten steel. The steel bath section is further divided into both a bottom part disposed on the bottom of the molten steel container and a side wall part which is disposed on the side of the molten steel container and which connects with the bottom part and the slag line section. In the molten steel container, a heat insulating material which has a thermal conductivity of 0.1W/(m.K) or less and a thickness of 1 mm or more is further disposed on the steel-shell side at least in the side wall part. The work refractory constituting the side wall part is a shaped refractory which is free from silicon carbide and contains magnesium oxide as the essential component and which has a carbon content of 1.5 to 11 mass%.
