Abstract

1498800 Razor blade dispensers WILKINSON SWORD Ltd 22 May 1975 [11 July 1974] 30670/74 Heading B8P A razor blade dispenser comprises a easing of moulded plastics, having an integral platform for supporting a stack of blades, and an aperture 10 through which a user's finger or thumb may be inserted to remove a blade from the stack. The blades are placed on the platform through an opening 9a which is then closed by a snap-fit closure 14, withdrawal being effected through a slot 16 adjacent guiding webs 15. A further slot 18 enables used blades to be inserted below the platform, which may comprise a pair of ledges 11, (12), Fig. 3 (not shown), a single ledge projecting from one wall of the casing, or a wall uniting opposite walls of the casing. Description

IMPR0VJEMBNT5 IN OR RBLATIHG Ϊ0 RAZOR BLADE DISPENSERS This invention relates to razor "blade dispensers.
A known form of razor blade dispenser comprises a casing having an aperture in one face of the casing through which a user may insert a thumb or finger, and a platform within the casing adapted to support a stack of razor blades so that the uppermost of the blades is engageable by the inserted thumb or finger for feeding the uppermost blade outwardly through an opening in the casing, the casing having a further opening in one face for filling the dispenser with razor blades prior to sale.
This known form of dispenser is made from two separate plastic mouldings, namely the main casing and a tray on which the blades are loaded. After the blades have been loaded on the tray, the tray is inserted into the open end of the main casing and is fed in until keys on the tray engage apertures in the casing. Substantial manhandling is required because the casing and tray are produced from separate moulding tools, must then be assembled in pairs, the tray must be loaded with the blades, and must there- after be carefully inserted in the casing without damaging the blades on the tray during the act of insertion.
One object of the present invention is to simplify the production and loading of a dispenser of this general type .
This object is achieved by forming the casing, the platform which supports the razor blades, and a closure member for the further opening in the casing, all as parts of a one-piece plastic moulding, whereby razor blades can be loaded onto the platform through the further opening for filling the dispenser prior to sale, after which the further opening is closed by the integral closure member.
Thus, v/ith the present invention there is only a single item emerging from the moulding tool, and it is a simple automated operation to feed a stack of blades onto the platform and thereafter close the further opening by means of the integral closure member.
One construction of razor blade dispenser, in accordance with the invention, will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the dispenser wit one end open in the position in which razor blades are previously-open end in the closed position, the outline of a "blade and its wrapper being shown in broken lines, Figure 3 is an end view of the dispenser, as seen from the left-hand side in Figure 1, showing both wrapped unused and unwrapped used blades in position, and Figure is a sectional view on line IV-IV in Figure 2, but without blades present and with the end wall 1 open.
The dispenser shown in the drawings is preferably a one-piece plastic moulding and is basically in the form of a rectangular box 9 having a large opening 10 in the top and with two ledges 11, 12 each projecting inwardly from a respective one of the side walls to provide support for a stack of razor blades 13 which, as shown, are each wrapped in paper. The blades 13 are loaded on to the ledges 11, 12 through an open end 9.a (the left-hand end as seen in Figure 1) which is thereafter closed by hinging the end wall 1 upwardly, a groove 14a being provided at the junction of the end wall 14 with the base of the dispenser to facilitate the hinging action. The end wall 14 is secured in the closed position by snapping the latch portion 14b into a slot 20 formed in the underside of the top of the dispenser.
Alternatively, or additionally, the end wall 14 may be secured in position by plastic welding or by adhesive.
When it is desired to withdraw a blade 13 from the dispenser the user engages the uppermost blade with his thumb or finger through the top opening 10 and moves the blade longitudinally so that it is urged up an end ramp formed by a plurality of webs 15 and ejected from the dispenser through a dispensing slot 16 in the end wall 17 Used blades can be stored in the dispenser by inserting them through a slot 18 in the bottom of the dispenser at the same end as the dispensing slot 16 and will lie in the space beneath the ledges 11, 12 as shown at 19 in Figure 3· Whilst in the construction described, two ledges 11, 12 are provided, it will be understood that alternatively the dispenser may be moulded with a platform which extends from side wall to side wall, or only a single ledge may be provided extending sufficiently across the dispenser to provide adequate support for the unused blades.
Although for convenience of production it is preferred that the end wall 14 is an integral part of the dispenser, it will be appreciated that the end wall 14 could be a separate item secured in position after loading of the dispenser. Likewise, although it is preferred to mould the dispenser in plastic it could be constructed in other materials.

Claims (5)
