Abstract

A method and apparatus for weaving a row of slidefastener links into the edge of a tape which is formed on a needle loom which feeds the links in the direction of the warp while simultaneously weaving the tape from warp and weft threads. At least one pair of warp threads tie an edge of the links into the edge of the tape, while the weft threads form loops which engage the links from the outside and run in an opposite direction over and under the row of links. Guiding means aid in tying off the warp threads and weft thread loops which pull in opposition to each other near the reed stop of the loom. [US3905401A]

Claims (4)

1. 44827/2 WHAT WE CLAIM ■ IS: - 1. A method of weaving a row of slide fastener links into the edge of a supporting tape, wherein the row of links is guided in the warp direction inside a guide bar to the location of beat-up of the reed and is ^secured to \ the supporting tape by at least two tie-in warp threads, which in turn are bound to the supporting tape by means of the weft, characterised in that the ground warp, the row of links and the tie-in warp threads are supplied laterally side by side when the tape is viewed in plan, that the tie-in warp threads are tied in by means of two weft threads introduced by respective needles, one. of the needles introducing the corresponding weft thread above the guide bar and the other of the needles introducing the corresponding weft thread below the guide bar into the ground warp from the side of the tie-in warp threads, that after a beat-up of the reed, the tie-in warp threads are crossed by a change of shed at a point alongside the guide bar, the tie-in warp" threads being wrapped around by the weft threads which. extend from the location of the beat-up of the reed to the needles, that then the two weft threads are introduced simultaneously between the crossed tie-in warp threads into the shed of the ground warp and that by a subsequent beat-up of the reed the crossing point of the two tie-in warp threads is pushed from alongside the guide bar into a gap between the links of the row "of links.
2. A method as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the row of links is advanced by one gap between the links at each weaving stroke.
3. A method as claimed in Claim 1 and 2, wherein after each tape wincing invoke e osing a fresh gap between the links, the tie-in warp threads pass round a first time, then the weft is introduced, next the two tie-in warp threads pass round a second time, after which beat-up of the reed is effected anc then the next tape advancing stroke is executed again.
4. Apparatus for carrying out the method as claimed in any of the preceding claims, consisting of a needle loom with two needles working in par'al.lo.l and in the same direction, chdraelur ised in that the needle loom comprises a' guide bar extending in the warp direction and ending substantially at the location of the beat-up of the reed, the guide bar acting as a cover for the row of links in relo ./on I o i he t;ic-j.7i war threads, the needles being disposed at each side of the guide bar and transversely of the guide bar, the end edge of the guide bar being constructed i-n the form of a deflecting device for the tie-in warp threads. o. A method according to Claim 1, substantially as hereinbefore' described with reference to Figures 1 to 6. or as modified by Figures 7 and 8 of the accompanying drawings. D. Apparatus according to Claim 4, substantially as hereinbefore described with^ reference toj Figures 1 to 6 or as modified, by Figures 7 and 8 of the accompanying drawings.
