Pile warp W<SP>3</SP> supplied by a beam is manipulated by tubes 150 to form uncut loops over fingers 185 which act as pile wires. The fingers are pivoted at 190 on a carrier 197 which moves fore-and-aft and rocks about its axis whereby, in conjunction with lateral angular movements effected by a bar 205, the fingers penetrate the pile warp sheet, come into alignment, and descend to the fell; the tubes 150 descend behind the fingers to take the pile warp into the shed, weft being then inserted over the pile warp; the tubes 150 rise to the position shown and the weft is beaten up by the reed 33; the fingers 185 slide out of the pile loops and move forward and upward clear of the fabric, after which weft is again inserted to complete the cycle. Weft inserters.-The weft inserting needle is actuated by a cable wound on a drum which is oscillated by a toothed sector, in turn oscillated by a crank.
