Description
44441/2 r playing Jean-Francois Boaio Charles Spindler The present invention relates to a device which is suitable for stocking and displaying garments on mobile racks.
So far, garments have always been stocked on static racks, so that the customer was forced to pass along the stacks in order to make his selection.
The present invention enables the customer to make the garments pass in front of him, merely by pressing a button* Thus, he need not move or displace himself. For the salesman, displaying the goods is less troublesome. The present invention has the same advantage when used for storage. In both cases, the number of garments stored per unit of area can be increased considerably.
French Patent No. 1,349,927 describes a garment storage and display device comprising a pai of vertical endless convey-, ing chains supporting a plurality of horizontal garment-supporting cross-pieces suspended from the chains by swinging suspension brackets.
However, the suspension brackets are pivoted on overhanging supports which are permanently fixed on pins of the chain links. Thus the brackets are offset from the chain and the weight of the suspended rolls tends to twist the chain and impair smooth running. Further, the presence of an upper shaft between upper chainwheels make it quite unsuitable for carrying garments.
The present invention is intended and adapted to overcome the inconveniences of known devices.
In the device according to the invention each suspension bracket is freely swingably mounted on a spindle carried by a chain and having a portion which received and supports the end - la - of a cross-piece eccentric to the spindle axis whereby each assembly of a pair of suspension braokets and a garment-supporting cross-piece remains by gravity in a given angular position during driving of the chains, each chain being formed of links vith hollow articulations for receiving the spindles thereby enabling the spacing of adjacent suspension brackets to be varied.
The present invention permits the dynamic storage and display of garments* The size of the apparatus is determined by the length of the garments, the number of carrying bars and the number of crossbars.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the crossbars can be hooked to chains, a> that they stay in a vertical position when the chains turn round the camwheels* In another embodiment the uppvr camwheels can be unlinked by being mounted on two projections connected with each other by one or more crossbars* An apparatus makes it possible for the lower wheels to move together, the motion being provided by an electrical motor* The present invention will now be illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings without being limited by same. In these drawings t Fig. 1, shows a simplified sketch of a device according to the present invention, and Fig. 2, shows the supports by which the crossbars are held* Bars 1 holding hangers 2 are tubular, so that it is easy to hang hangers 1 on them. On their upper side and at both ends bars 1 are equipped with hooks 5 which hold them on crossbars 3. A handle allows any tubular bar 1 desired to be taken off crossbars 3. Ends 6 of crossbar 3 are round and are provided with incision 61. Incision 6,j;can be seated on forked support 7 which holds crossbar 3 while travelling. Clamp 8 holds end 6 of crossbar 3 so as to prevent its escaping from support 7. A seating in the upper part of the support contains the outer pari of ball bearing 10, of which the inner ring is seated on an axle 9. Bearing 10 is retained in the seating by washer 11 while travelling. The end of axle 9 is seated in the hollow link of chain 12, where it is held by nut 13 and washer 14. Flat cap 15 arranged on axle 9 allows nut 13 to be tightened. Thus the carrying bar is kept vertical while the chain turner round the camvheele.
Upper wheels A, A' , each being equipped with a ball bearing, turn independently, each on fixed axle 16 , which forms part of the projection} the wheels lie in the same horizontal plane. The lower wheels Bj B also lying in the same horizontal plane, turn together since they are joined by transmission axle 4 turning at each end in a socket set in projection 17. The projections are firmly held by cross-joints 18, in order to form a rigid frame*, A chain-arid-s rocket transmission links the transmission axle with an electrical motor mounted on one of the projections* Guides affixed to the* frame assure that the chain is held properly on the vertical parts. ¾e moving parts are protected by a metal plate cage which contains, on the front side, switch plate 21, a power socket for plugging in such accessories as a,blower, cutter, hole cutter or electrical lamp, and' a card holder for stock cards of the garments stored in the apparatus · Lever 24 disengages the brake of the electromotor, in order to permit the installation to be operated manually by a handwheel in case of a power cut.
At each end of crossbars 3, plywood boards 19 are mounted to prevent the garments from rubbing against the chain.
Claims (1)
1. A garment storage and display device comprising a pair of spaced-apart uprights each having an endless conveying chain with two vertical runs, the chains passing about chainwheels towards the lower and upper ends of the uprights, means for driving the chainwheels in synchronization, and a plurality of horizontal garment-supporting cross-pieces suspended from the chains by swinging suspension brackets, each suspension bracket being freely swingably mounted on a spindle carried by a chain and having a portion which receives and supports the end of a cross-piece eccentric to the spindle axis whereby each assembly of a pair of suspension brackets and a garment-supporting cross-piece remains by gravity in a given angular position during driving of the chains, each chain being formed of links with hollow articulations for receiving the spindles thereby enabling the spacing of adjacent suspension brackets to be varied* A device according to claim 1, in which each suspension bracket consists of a plate having a verticle part pivot-ally mounted on its spindle, a lower horizontal part projecting towards the opposite upright, and a yoke-like upstanding inner part having an opening in its upper edge defined between two vertical flanges projecting towards said opposite upright, each end of a cross-piece having a trunnion with an annular groove which is received in said opening of the inner part of a suspension bracket and retained by a pin fitted between said two flanges* » 44441/^ 3 - 5 - 3. A device according to claim 1 or 2, in which the chain links each include a series of hollow articulations for receiving the spindles, each pair of adjacent links being articulated together about a common one of said articulations. 4. A garment storage and display device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings* FOR THE APPLICANTS DR. YITZHAK HESS
