Abstract

Filtration felt for the purificn. of liqs. esp. water, has a coarse sheet of coarse fibres, with pores backed by a network of fine fibres, materials with a high specific surface being placed within the pores. Insoluble bactericides or bacteriostats are deposited on the surface of the fibres and/or on the material with a high specific surface. Filter retains fine and coarse particles e.g. bacterial with a size of 0.4nm. and chemicals e.g. free chorine or chlorophenol. [FR2216377A1]

Claims (7)

1. Λ filter material in the form of felt for purifying liquids, particularly water, characterised by a coarse fleece of coarse fibres having a diameter from 0.005 to 0.5 mm and a minimum length of 1 mm with a maximum length of 50 mm, the pores of which are spanned by a network of fine fibres having a diameter from 0.00005 to 0.005 mm and a minimum length of 1 mm with a maximum length of 50 mm and in which there are embedded substances having a high to maximum specific surface of at least 10 m /g , bactericidal or bacteriostatic substances being present, in a form which is insoluble in the liquid to be purified, particularly in water, on the surface of the fibres and/or of the substances having a high to maximum specific surface*
2. A filter material according to Claim 1, characterised in that the coarse fibres are natural cellulose fibres of regenerated cellulose, fibres of natural or synthetic polyaraides, acrylic fibres, polyester fibres, polyvinyl chloride fibres, polyurethane fibres, polyol fin fibres, or cotton, flax, hemp, jute, ramie or coconut fibres, wool, goat's hair, calf's hair, cow hair or horse hair, nylon fibres, polyeth leneterephthalate fibres, polypropylene fibres, polystyrene fibres, such as are used for textile purposes, or cellulose fibres from conifer or deciduous trees cereal straw, grasses or macerated rags, which are cut to the correct length.
3. A filter material according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the fine fibres are natural cellulose, fibres of regenerated cellulose, fibres of natural or synthetic polyamides, acrylic fibres, polyester fibres. 44048/2 polyvinyl chloride fibres, polyurethane fibres, polyolefin fibres, glass fibres such as fibre glass and (trade name) , beta/ whiskers (filamentary monocrystals) , asbestos, synthetic mineral fibres, such as slag fibres or rock fibres, for example mineral wool, quartz fibres.
4. A filter material according to any of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the substances having a high to maximum specific surface of at least 10 m 2/g, are e.g. 2 silica gel (up to 800 ra /g) » bleaching earths, possibly prepared or surface-coated kieselguhr, . active carbon 2 (up to 1000 m /g) , activated aluminium oxide or zeolites.
5. A filter material according to any of Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the bactericidal or bacteriostatic substances are very finely divided metals or metal compounds being silver or silver compounds, copper or copper compounds or manganese or manganese compounds.
6. A method of producing a filter material according to any of Claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the coarse fibres are mixed with water and preferably disintegrated in a refiner, then the fine fibres, possibly suspended in water, are added and preferably again disintegrated in a refiner and finally the substances having a high to maximum specific surface are mixed in, preferably suspended in water, the bactericidal or bacteriostatic substances are added to the suspension, namely in particle form, if they are insoluble in water and i th liquid to be purified when in the finely divided state, or in the form of water-soluble compounds which are thenconverted. i » in a suitable manner, into a film or precipitate, which, is insoluble in the liquid to be purified, on the fibres and/or substances having a high to maximum specific surface, the suspension thus produced is freed of the greater part of the liquid by decanting, preferably after settling, and the pulp thus obtained is converted into an endless band, for example on a suction belt such as is used in paper and felt machines, possibly with the supply of heat.
7. A method according to claim 6, characterised in that de-ionized water is used for the production of the suspension, for example water treated with cation exchangers and anion exchangers.
